Product Development Programme

Turning a good idea into a product that’s ready for market takes more than inspiration, it needs a clear strategy, the right guidance and the time to get everything in place. We built our Product Development Programme with these things in mind – so whether you’ve got an idea, a rough outline or even a prototype we have can support your new product’s journey into the market. Our structured approach is tailored to your business and ensures your product is thoroughly researched and considered to reduce risk and avoid expensive mistakes.

Idea Generation & Exploration

We can help you make sense of your idea. What does it do? Who is it for? Is there a market? We can map out your products potential through strategy sessions, where we’ll challenge early assumptions, and explore different directions your product could potentially take. The aim is to give you a clearer image of what you’re developing and why.

Design & Development

Once the idea is fully developed we can help refine the design by tweaking the functionality, materials or user experience. This might include sketching another version of the product, sourcing materials or working through technical problems like how the product will be powered, built, and what it should look or feel like. Our connections at the University of Plymouth can help here, as we can consult with academics, technicians and industry experts to glance their knowledgeable eyes over your product.

Testing & Prototyping

When it’s time to get more practical we can help you develop early prototypes with our in-house 3d printer. We can also help you explore materials and how to manufacture your product at scale. We also support on things such as grant applications to help fund testing or access to specialist equipment, and we can help you approach manufacturers who specialise in small-batch production. We understand that prototyping isn’t just seeing if something works – its also an opportunity for further fine-tuning.

Market Research & Audience

You might think you know who your product is for – but are they actually going to buy it? We offer independent research to test this theory by identifying target markers, gathering insights, and learning about your competitors. This can be done in a range of ways either through sector-specific analysis, focus groups or surveys. The aim is to deep dive so you can move forward knowing whose going to buy your product and how best to reach them.

Branding & Visual Identity

How your product looks and feels is one of the most important aspects of any product. We can offer branding support as part of the package – from logo development, colour palette and even tone of voice – we can help you find a brand identity which will resonate with your target audience.

IP & Legal Protection

All good ideas need to be protected and our IP specialist can help you explore the best way to ensure that your idea remains yours. We can help with the red tape of patents, registered designs and legal agreements and our specialist can help make the process more straightforward

Investor Readiness & Commercialisation

Once your product is refined it will need a route into the market. We can help you shape a commercial strategy that will consider pricing, positions, and the best route to customers. Bringing this all-together ensures your company is at its best to approach investors for additional funding.
