Cornwall Innovation Club Resumes Face-to-Face Events

7 December 2021

November saw the Cornwall Innovation Club return to its pre-Covid breakfast and networking format to warmly welcome 30 delegates at the ‘Make Smart’ edition, which was held at the Cornwall Hotel, St Austell (Nov 25).

“It was a great re-introduction to our Cornwall Innovation Clubs and so nice to see members, as well as some new faces, back in person”, says Jo Hancock, ATI2’s Programme Manager.

The Make Smart event delved into the innovation trends within manufacturing in Cornwall, with ATI2’s Business Innovation Advisor, Mike Robertson, talking about some of the patterns emerging within the support manufacturers are seeking.

“Challenging your view of the market and addressing silos within the business is so important”, says Mike. ”Understanding the market, horizon scanning and empowering teams to continually improve products and services will ensure the business doesn’t stand still and remains relevant, particularly in times of disruption”, he adds.

The audience also heard from Paul Gilbert, Manufacturing Specialist at SWMAS, who presented ‘The Future of Manufacturing’, which not only looked at the latest technological advancements and innovations which are changing how the manufacturing industry is making products but changing how their customers can experience their products virtually before they are made.

Lastly, Konstantin Leonenko, DFIML Engagement Manager at the University of Plymouth’s Digital Fabrications and Immersive Media Labs, introduced their ‘labs in a box’ 3D printing technology which businesses can learn to use in a day and begin to ideate, design and reimagine products to make them more competitive.

The next edition of the Cornwall Innovation Club is all about ‘Protecting your Innovation’ and will be held in person at the Atlantic Hotel, Newquay, on February 10 from 8:30-10:30 am. Attendees will be able to enjoy a networking breakfast, followed by talks from experts within the legal sectors, who will discuss patents, intellectual property and the importance of robust T’s and C’s.
