What if technology could help you be anywhere in the world and speak any language, in real time? Well, Microsoft are combining pioneering AI technology with holographic experiences (known as holoportation) to do just that.
At Microsoft Inspire 2019, Julia White, CVP at Azure Marketing, demonstrated how mixed reality and Azure AI can create a bilingual, holographic replica of yourself – to be viewed from anywhere in the world, in real time, via Holo Lens 2 goggles.
Mixed reality capture technology is used to create the hologram of the individual and the latest in artificial intelligence technology, known as neural text to speech (or neural TTS), is able to translate what the individual is saying into any other language.
This new technology really does stretch the imagination. It verges on turning what was once Star Trek hologram history into a possible reality for the future. Take a look at this 4 minute video to see the full demonstration for yourself:
